STANLEY ACCRINGTON

Stanley emerged from the dark days of the late 1970's and has been terrorising the cultural world ever since!
He has written hundreds of songs in a range of styles on a vast rake of subjects. There are old-style songs on current happenings and modern style songs on ancient events. There are poems, pastiches, parodies, and possibly anything.
Apart from the silly and very silly material, Stanley has always been writing serious songs to confuse the situation further. He has performed hundreds of times at a wide range of events all over UK and occasionally beyond.
Stanley has been performing all over UK and occasionally beyond at a wide variety of locations and events. He always tries to be both relevant and entertaining. (The pigeon-hole to put this stuff in is "miscellaneous-ish")
This is a very special gig for Stanley and for Raising the Rafters as Stanley is celebrating his “Ruby Anniversary” this year - 40 years of making people helpless with laughter! And he’s marking this impressive milestone in his career with a visit to Rafters!
Stanley is still considering which charity should benefit from this night so watch this space!

An Evening with Reg Meuross
Raising the Rafters are delighted to be running a one off special concert for the legendary REG MEUROSS as part of his national “12 Silk Handkerchiefs”tour. This will be a solo night with just Reg performing, supported by Rafters regulars ALAN WOOD & ANDY WILD.
Unlike the other concerts on Reg’s tour, this one is to raise money for charity - and how appropriate that it should be Humber Rescue - a charity that has for 25 years been providing a quick response search and rescue service on the Humber Estuary, and who are based in Hessle - the very heartland of the fishing community brought to life in Reg’s songs.
Reg will be performing songs from his “12 Silk Handkerchiefs” album as well as many of his old favourites. It’s going to be an unforgettable evening!
Unlike our regular Saturday clubs, this is a ticket only event. Tickets are £8 (young people 16 and under free) obtainable from wegottickets.com or at the July and September Raising the Rafters Folk Clubs. Any ticket enquiries phone Andrew on 07522 576855.
Tickets are already selling fast so book yours now to make sure that you see one of the country’s finest and most prolific singer/songwriters at Raising the Rafters and help Reg support a charity close to his heart.
Here’s what the critics have said about Reg and his latest album:-
‪Reg Meuross - Singer, Songwriter, Storyteller‬
‪Folking.com ’Soloist of the Year’ 2019, Reg Meuross is in the final run of touring his latest album 12 Silk Handkerchiefs. The song cycle, inspired by Brian W Lavery’s book The Headscarf Revolutionaries, opens a window onto Hull’s Hessle Road fishing community and fighting fishwife Lillian Billoca’s successful campaign for improved trawler safety in the aftermath of the 1968 Triple Trawler Disaster. Reg has that rare gift of being able to touch people through his songs and performance, on a really human level, his words and music painting pictures that remain with the listener long after the song has been sung, accompanying himself masterfully on guitar and captivating audiences with his beautiful tenor voice. ‬
‪"Meuross has achieved something rare and important… and he has done so with great sincerity and emotional depth.” Folk Radio UK‬
‪Among a sea of dates for the full show, we are happy to present this very special Raising The Rafters ‘Rafters Xtra’ solo show at the Saint James Room, Wath on Friday 20th September. Reg will sing the songs from the album, followed by a selection from his repertoire, bringing characters from history to life, commenting on life around him plus some the most heart aching love songs ever written, always performed with depth and spellbinding delivery. ‬
‪Ticket money will raise funds for the Humber Rescue.‬ ‪This tour is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.‬
‪“One of the most talented storytellers of our generation” Pennyblack Music‬
‪“Powerful and moving songwriting” Martin Chilton, The Telegraph‬
‪“A mighty songwriter and an equally fine singer” Martin Carthy‬

M.S. SOCIETY NIGHT WITH PANJANDRUM
Until recently the Panjandrum boys used to run an enormously successful fund raising night every October for the M.S. Society, raising shedloads of money for them.
Sadly, these one off nights finished a couple of years ago, but Raising the Rafters are very proud to keep the tradition alive, by giving this brilliant band a platform every October to continue to raise money for this very worthy cause that they have done so much to help in the past.
Those of you who have never seen this lively band are in for a treat - as are their large following of loyal supporters. Playing guitars, fiddles, melodeon, and bass guitars, they have a wide repertoire of music from all genres, specialising in American and British traditional folk.....and they love what they’re doing and enjoy every minute of it - and so will you!
And the good news is that all money raised on the night for the MS Society will be gift aided and so that will be an extra 25% on top!
