Well, it’s nice to be popular (so they tell me) and Raising the Rafters has become so popular that there are more potential guests than there are clubs in 2019 - so some of our clubs will feature TWO guests - and this is the first one!
First up is Rafters regular, guitar player, songwriter and monologue performer CLIVE HUDSON. Clive is a talented songwriter covering such diverse topics as a lament to the mining industry and the dangers of buying unexploded bombs as World War One souvenirs (yes, really!!) - someone who can write a song about that is really worth going to see! And his monologues have left people helpless with laughter! Check out some of his previous performances on Raising the Rafters YouTube link.
ALAN GILL has a long history on the South Yorkshire folk circuit and plays brilliant guitar, performing mostly contemporary music but also with the occasional traditional song thrown in for good measure......to add to his many achievements he also runs FIRST FRIDAY FOLK at The Commercial, Chapeltown which, like Rafters, is going from strength to strength.
This club will be the second club of 2019 to sponsor WATH MAY FESTIVAL 2019

David Kidman and Lynne Edmondson
We have a real treat for you this month: two popular singers from the Yorkshire region in a sparkling new teaming that’s been described as “2+2=5”.
Lynne and David came together through the shared enjoyment of singing and a love of fine songs, and they are now looking forward to having fun sharing some of these songs with you. They will be raising money for the Action On Hearing Loss charity and for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Lynne has been singing folk songs for almost as long as she can remember and has always loved traditional music, although in recent years she has been branching out into the “contemporary tradition” and introducing her own exceptional songwriting talent to Yorkshire’s folk scene.
David is no stranger to Raising The Rafters, as long-term supporter. performer and occasional compère. He specialises in songs of the “contemporary tradition”, and has just released his second solo CD, Songs Worth The Singing. He last guested at RtR in the song-and-verse presentation “These Coal Town Days” (with poet Jim Saville), and this latest venture turns the spotlight onto another facet of his repertoire.

Paul and Catherine Saltis
Local couple Paul and Catherine Saltis have been supporters of Raising the Rafters Folk Club since its inception and are coming back for a long awaited guest night bringing Paul’s musical skills and Cath’s gentle harmonies which blend beautifully together.
Paul plays Mandolin, Guitar and Slide Guitar and between them they bring to life songs both contemporary and traditional.
